OUTR in Sao Paulo Day 2

Full day at City Scape
Well at least that's what the plan was meant to be, but unfortunately yesterday was more than enough time to venture past many of the exhibits and speakers two or three times over. Instead we thought it was a great opportunity to once again hit the streets and see some more of the Brazils architecture, parks and overall culture.

The two films below are quite interesting (and simply clever) animations that we discovered.

OUTR in Rio de Janerio Day 5

Meeting with Brazilian Olympic Commission
Today we had the privilege of going to the headquarters of the BOC and discuss with them their plans and  approach into how they are preparing Rio for the 2016 olympic games.
The video that will start playing below automatically (please be patient-50mb file) is the animated 2016 MasterPlan that was prepared by the BOC for their bid to the IOC and kindly provided to us after the meeting.  They were (as you can imagine) a very interesting group to meet with, and ask questions of how they intend to deal not only with the amount of infrastructure that they either have to update or provide, but also concerns of safety for international tourists attending the events.
Without doubt this is their biggest challenge which the BOC were quite open to talk about.  Many of the venues are intended to be upgraded, and those that are being built we be done well before time and ready for the World Cup, which Brazil will host in 2014.  The main focus will be in upgrading transport infrastructure and key areas all over Rio.

OUTR in Rio de Janerio Day 4

Meeting with Rio Port Manager
Meeting with City of Rio Council and Urban planners / Landscape Architects
After the meeting we came across these great drawings of the City of Rio pre 1800's.
One of the things we really loved about the Brazilian infrastructure was the creative way that it was arranged throughout the city, thus allowing for the creation of 'new' and strangely different spaces than we see have Australia.

OUTR Wins DawnTown International Competition in Miami, USA

OUTR has been awared first prize in for the DawnTown 2009 Competition for Miami Metromover with the project Cayalytic diaphragm.

The project provides a proposed metromover station as a place of interaction, a node and an icon within the urban fabric of downtown Miami.  The station is the catalyser of a new urban landscape that flows gently from  he Burle Marx sidewalks to the museum plaza through slopes and ramps connecting all activities in the icentennial Park.
The building mediates between the museums and the station through a screen that can present; science  documentaries, art installations or public performances, becoming an interactive diaphragm that will transform the experience of the visitor in the continuous interior-exterior plaza linking the new museums of Miami.

To check out the video of the project submission click below.

The jury's statement said the project addresses the competition vision, finding a solution for the most critical adjacent space while unifying both adjacent museums whilst creating alternative programs such as a public theater.
The project submission is of a profound gesture, yet is of a scale that makes sense and is exciting and engaging on many different levels.
The Metromover tracks and platform are reconfigured in a logical and efficient manner while acting as a new icon. The space has a high level of functionality, addresses people, activating the plaza and creating a community.
It celebrates and share art with the public and serves as a dynamic public space for both museums to program together. The use of screen and plaza generates revenue and opportunities for Miami Dade County.
