Biomimetic design - Festo's Air Jelly

Air is the element of Air Jelly. The remote controlled jellyfish "AirJelly" does not swim through water like aqua jelly, but glides through air. It's has a central electric drive and an intelligent, adaptive mechanical system and consists of a helium-filled ballonet. Each tentacle is a structure based on the Fin Ray Effect ®. The drive of a balloon through a peristaltic motion is now in the aviation history. AirJelly is the first indoor flying object with peristaltic drive. The jellyfish moves thanks to this new drive concept, a reaction principle based on the drive, pushing it gently through the air.

Please also see their work on CyberKite, AirRay among others that have been inspired through looking at movement in marine creatures.  Festo's Website
